News Record; 4 February 2007

REIDSVILLE - Joseph Hooper, 90, of 1019 Oakcrest Dr., Reidsville, died Saturday, February 3, 2007, at his home.

Memorial services will be conducted 4 p.m. Monday, February 5, at First Presbyterian Church. Inturnment will be in the church columbarium.

A native of Coburn, Va., he was a son of the late Pink M. and Della Tate Hooper and had lived in Reidsville most of his life. He was the owner/operator of Pink M. Hooper Insurance Agency for many years and was a World War II Army Veteran. A member of First Presbyterian Church, he was a member of the Rockingham Lake Fishing Club, Pennrose Park Country Club, and was a member of the City of Reidsville Planning Board for many years.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Phillip M. "Diddle" Hooper and William Franklin "Frank" Hooper and two sisters, June H. Goodes and Dorothy H. Link.

Surviving are his wife, Flora McIntyre "Flossie" Hooper of the home; two daughters, Jane H. Harrill and husband, David of Reidsville, Dell H. Barbee and husband, Cliff of Reidsville; son, Phillip M. Hooper and wife, Tamara of Raleigh; eight grandchildren, Joseph T. Harrill, Anna C. Harrill, Ben C. Barbee, Phillip H. Barbee, Katherine L. McKinney, Rick McKinney, Steven M.. Hooper, and Sarah E. Hooper; sister, Betty H. Stocks of Reidsville.

The family will see friends at the residence, 1019 Oakcrest Dr., Reidsville.

OBITUARY

REIDSVILLE ? Flora McIntyre "Flossie" Hooper, 81, of 1019 Oakcrest Dr., Reidsville, N.C., died Wednesday, December 12, 2007, at Morehead Nursing Center Eden, N.C., after a lengthy illness.

Memorial services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, December 15, at First Presbyterian Church. Inurnment will be in the church columbarium.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend and teacher, she was a daughter of the late Beverly Carodine and Sarah McCormick McIntyre and had lived in Reidsville for most of her life. A retired teacher with the Reidsville City School System, she taught first grade at Franklin Street Elementary School for many years. An avid golfer and bridge player, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Down To Earth Garden Club. She was also a sustaining member of the Reidsville Junior Service League.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Hooper; a sister, Katherine McIntyre White and two brothers, B.C. McIntyre, Jr. and John Merritt McIntyre.

Surviving are one son and two daughters; two brothers; eight grandchildren

Benjamin F. Tate received a common school education. After his marriage he farmed for several years. He came into public life after Wise County's industrial development commended, when he was employed by the Stonegate Coke and Coal Company as company policeman, in which capacity he served for a period of five years. About the year 1912, he moved to the town of Coeburn in Wise County and was soon afterwards elected Town Sergeant. He held the position for 18 years.
