George Carter Tate, 73, died at his home in Summitville, Coffee County, at 8 o'clock Saturday morning. Funeral services were conducted from the Grace Chapel Presbyterian Church at Beersheba Sunday afternoon by Rev. Burl Killian. Interment was in the Church Cemetery. Mr. Tate, who was born in Warren County, March 4, 1868, was the son of the late Robert and Margaret Lockhart Tate. Arrangements by High Funeral Company.

Born near Collins River, Warren County, TN which later became Grundy County, TN. Son of Major James Tate and Ruth Davidson Tate. He was called Samuel J. in the 1850 Federal Census of Grundy County, TN. However, in the Federal Census of 1870, Grundy County, TN, he was called Jackson Tate, age 55 years. He was a farmer and before 1860, he settled in Sequatchie County, TN.
