    In 1899, Senator James F. Beavers representing the Seventh District, was patron of a bill in the West Virginia legislature that established three miner's hospitals in the state. The one in the Flat Top mining region was to be in either Mercer or McDowell counties. Welch was chosen as the site and the city donated the land.

    A citizens ticket to be voted for at the municipal election in January was nominated at a largely attended convention at Welch last night. The nominations follow: Mayor J. A. Strother. Recorder; W. 0. Perry. Councilmen: J. F. Johnson, W. W. Whyte, James F. Beavers, A. C. Brewster and A. Z. Iiltz. Mr. Strother has been mayor of Welch for the past five years, and Mr. Perry has served several terms as recorder of that town.

    Notes:

    Phoebe did not marry the father of her children. His name does not appear on any of their marriage records or death certificates, except for her youngest child, Mollie Rosa Beavers Pack. Her husband, John Riley Pack, gave her father's name as Henry Harrison. John had been close friends with her older brother James F. Pack since they were teenagers, so he knew the family well. He is a likely reliable source.

    Research in continuing on which Henry Harrison it is. At this time no DNA matches have been found from my mother on Ancestry with a Harrison cousin, so the father can't be confirmed.
