M.M. Powers Dies In Hospital

Melzah Maderia (Bozo) Powers, 57, of 208 Jennings St. died at noon Thursday in a local hospital following a long illness.

He was born at Colcord, May 22, 1912, a son of the late William Morgan and Rose Moore Powers.

He formerly was employed as a state coal inspector for 25 years, a coal inspector for Ogelbay-Norton Coal Co. for three years and had worked for Meadows Lumber Co. for the past 11 years.He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church and a lifetime resident of Raleigh County.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Virginia Vipperman Powers, daughter, Mrs. James E. (Kay) Hedrick of Albany, Ga., one son, William Donald of Vermillion, Ohio; one sister Miss Lillian B. Powers of Beckley and six grandchildren.

The body is at the Calfee Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Calfree Chapel with Rev. Jim Franklin in charge. Burial will be in the Ridge Lawn addition of the Sunset Memorial Park.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today. Pallbearers will be Roman L. Wood, Blane Wood, Dave Parent, Frank Turner, Paul Beasley and Perry Powers.

OBITUARY

Post Herald and Register 18 Sept 1965

M. T. Vipperman, 78, of 502 Johnstown Rod., died in a local nursing home at 4:14 p.m. Friday.

Vipperman was born Feb. 7, 1887, at Meadows of Dan, Va., the son of the late James Madison and Texanna Terry Vipperman.

He was vice-president of the Vipperman Construction co., a member of the Beckley Maonic Lodge No. 95, a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies in Charles, the Beckley Moose Lodge and the General Contractors Assn.

A resident of Beckley for the past 50 years, he is survived by one don, D. E. of Sweeneysburg; four daughters, Mrs. Robert (Anna) Carper, Mrs. M. M. (Virginia) Powers, Mrs. Margaret Lilly, all of Beckley and Mrs. J. T. (Agnes) Heatherman of Princeton; one sister Mrs. Jeneva Rakes of Meadows of Dan' 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will he held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gerald L. Morgan in charge. Burial will be in the Calfee Cemetery at Mount Hope.
