    Judith Rice Pallo, 69 of Louisville, died Tuesday, April 10, 2007 after a short illness.

    Born December 11, 1937 in Springfield, IL, Judy grew up and lived most of her life in Louisville. After raising her family, Judy graduated from the University of Louisville with a degree in social work and was employed in the private sector by Catholic Charities.

    In 1989, Judy opened Liberty House as its acting director and for 10 years Liberty House served the city's homeless teenagers. She then moved to private adoptions where she helped many people realize their dreams of completing their families.

    Judy's family would like to thank all of the dedicated medical professionals who assisted in her recent care. Judy is survived by a son, John A. Pallo; her daughter, Kathryn Pallo; her son-in-law, William Edwards, Jr.; and her beloved granddaughter, Chelsea Kidd. Visitation will be held at Pearson's 149 Breckenridge Lane from 1-4 p.m., Saturday, April 14. A short service celebrating her life will follow at 4 p.m. Memorial donations can be made to the Shamrock Foundation, P.O. Box 24033, Louisville, KY 40224.

    James V. Rice Is Killed By Auto (30 Jan 1967)

    James V. Rice, 61, a vice-president of W.L. Miller, Inc., an insurance agency was killed at 9:05 last night as he crossed Norris Place near Deer Lane, Police said. His office was at 543 S. Third.

    Rice of 14 Ridge Road, suffered chest injuries and compound fractures of both legs. Chief Deputy Coroner William Anderson reported.

    Patrolmen James Allen and Robert Ramsey said Rice was hit by an automobile driven by Charles T. Brown, 49, of 9042 Fern Creek Rd. Brown said Rice ran into the street several feet from the intersection of Norris Place and Deer Lane, and he was unable to avoid striking him. No charges were filed.

    Rice was a native of Roselawn, Ind., and came to Louisville 25 years ago from Chicago. He was a member of St. Andrew Episcopal Church and a former member of Big Spring Golf Club and the Pendennis Club.

    Survivors include his widow, the former Margaret Elliott; a daughter, Mrs. Carl A. Pallo; four brothers, Burgess J., William K., and Dr. C. Malcolm Rice all of Chicago, and John H. Rice, St. Louis; a sister Mrs. Murrell Thomas, Oklahoma City, Okla., and two grand-children.

    The funeral will be at 11:30 a.m., Thursday at Pearson's, 149 Breckinridge Lane. Burial will be in Cave Hill Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Heart Fund.

    Insurance Firm Vice President Killed by Auto

    A 61-year-old insurance firm executive was killed about 9:05 last night when he was struck by a car as he crossed Norris Place in the 1600 block.

    James V. Rice, 14 Ridge Road, a vice president of W.L. Miller, Inc. with offices at 543 S. Third, died of internal injuries, Chief Deputy Coroner, William Anderson said. He suffered severe injuries to the chest and compound fractures of both legs, Anderson said.

    City Patrolmen James Allen and Robert Ramsey said Rice was hit by a car driven by Charles T. Brown, 49, of 9042 Fern Creek Rd. Brown told police Rice ran into the street in the middle of the block and that he was unable to avoid hitting him. No charges were filed.

    Rice's death was the 10th traffic fatality in Louisville this year. At this time last year, there had been nine traffic deaths, and the 10th did not come until Feb. 11, 1966.

    The body was taken to Pearson Funeral Home, 149 Breckinridge Lane.

    HEBRON, Feb. 16 ? Dr. Clair Rice, Sr., a native of Hebron who practiced medicine for 20 years in the DeMotte-Roselawn vicinity, died of a cerebral hemorrhage Sunday morning at 6 o'clock in the Fullerton Convalescent home in Chicago. He was 73 years old.

    Dr. Rice, who was born in Hebron June 3, 1879, had been at the home for the past four months following two months spent in a hospital. In recent years he practiced at Butler, Mo.

    He married Mabel Burgess of Hebron, who preceded him in death about 10 years ago. Surviving are four sons, Burgess J. of Chicago, James V. of Louisville, Ky., Dr. Clair M. Rice, Jr., Skokie, Ill., and John H. of St. Louis; one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Thomas, Oklahoma City; and 12 grandchildren.

    Memorial rites will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p. m., at the Phillips Funeral home in Hebron with the Rev. W. Ray Kuhn, of the Methodist church, officiating. Burial will be in Hebron Cemetery.

    James Rice departed from this earth last Thursday night at the home of his son, Dr. C. M. Rice, at Rose Lawn, at the age of 78 years and 8 months. The deceased had been in poor health for some time and about two weeks ago went to the home of his son where he gradually failed, until called by the death angel.

    The remains were brought to his home here Saturday, accompanied by his daughters Mrs. Bertha Henry and Miss Lucie Rice, both who are teachers in Illinois. The funeral services were held at the United Presbyterian church, Sunday at 2:30 p.m., conducted by Rev. C. M. Filer. The deceased was a member of the United Presbyterian Church.

    The people of Hebron received the sad news Tuesday morning that Mrs. James Rice had died very suddenly at her home Monday night at 11 o'clock, of heart disease. She had been about her usual household duties during the day, and retired early. In the night her daughter Lucy heard her making a slight noise and by the time she could investigate the cause she was dead.

    The deceased was about 58 years of age, was a member of the congregational church and a loyal worker of the W. C. T. U. She leaves two children, Miss Lucy and Dr. C. M. Rice, of Rose Lawn, also a step daughter, Mrs. Bertha Henry, and a loving husband, James Rice, to mourn her loss. Funeral at the house at 1 o'clock, Thursday.

    Death at Hebron

    Mrs. J. V. Rice, a well known resident of Hebron, died this morning. She had been sick about a week. She was about 50 years old, and besides her husband leaves two daughters, Bertha and Lucy, both teachers school teachers in the Boone township schools, and one son, Br. C.M. Rice, of Rose Lawn, Ind.

    Hebron Woman Dies Suddenly

    Hebron and vicinity was deeply shocked this morning to learn of the sudden and entirely unexpected death of Mrs. James Rice, which occurred last night at eleven o'clock. She had been around Hebron yesterday afternoon and appeared to be in her usual health. Death was due to an attack of heart trouble. Mrs. Rice was about 60 years of age and is survived by her husband and three children. She was a prominent church member and well known as a W.C.T.U. worker.
