    Caroline Sanders Sterrett noted Raleigh artist and widow of Lt. Col. John Douglas Sterrett, died at her home in Raleigh on Thursday, Sept. 21, 1996.

    Surviving are her daughters, Sarah S. Meyerhoff of Greenwich, Conn. and Martha S. Tempest of Houston, Tex.; a brother William H. Saunders of Princeton, West Virginia; and six grandchildren.

    A funeral service was held 2 p.m. Sunday Sept. 24 at Hayes Barton Baptist Church in Raleigh.

    A graveside service was held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26 at Monterey Cemetery, Monterey, Highland County, Virginia"
