  Notes	OBITUARY W.Z. Vanhook Sr. 79, formerly of Big Stone Gap, VA, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997, at Mercy Hospital South, Pineville, NC. Born in Washington County, VA, Mr. Vanhook was a son of the late William Carson and Frances Minerva Kaylor Vanhook. He lived most of his life in Big Stone Gap, VA, but had lived in York for the past six years. He was retired from the Interstate & Southern Railroads with over 45 years of service. He was a US Army veteran of WWII, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, and was of the Christian faith. Mr. Vanhook was preceded in death by his wife, Easter Tate Vanhook, a son, Marvin R. Vanhook, and a granddaughter, Laura Vanhook Lemmon. Survivors include sons, William Z. Vanhook Jr. and Charles T. Vanhook, both of York, and Ret. Cmdr. Robert J. Vanhook of Pensacola, FL; daughter, Linda Gay Carter of Albemarle, NC; brothers, Maurice Vanhook Sr. of Big Stone Gap, VA, and Gilbert Vanhook of Barstow, CA; sisters, Gaynelle Phillips and Joyce Giles, both of Big Stone Gap, VA, and Edna Hayes of Barstow, CA; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday in Holding Funeral Home Chapel, Big Stone Gap, VA, with the Rev. Hugh Bowers officiating. Burial is in Powell Valley Memorial Gardens. Family will serve as pallbearers. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at Holding Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church Project Park, 1184 N. Shiloh Rd., York, SC 29745. Holding Funeral Home, Big Stone Gap, VA, is in charge of arrangements.
