Mary Ann Horne Is Bride Of George Straley Tate, Jr.
Coeburn, Virginia, Miss Mary Ann Horne became the bride of George Straley Tate, Jr. The Rev. Robert H. Ballard of Coeburn, Virginia, officiated. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Maynard L. Horne of Coeburn, Virginia, and the groom Is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Straley Tate of Norton, Virginia.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of pearly satin fashioned with a deep ruffle of chantilly lace which circled the yoke of sheer marquisette, long fitted sleeves that came to lily-points over her hands. Her long torso had self- satin buttons down the back and the gathered skirt which terminated into a formal train had panels of chantilly lace over the hips. She carried an arm bouquet of Flour d'Amour, stephanotls, and centered with an orchid. Her two- tiered pure silk veil of Imported Illusion fell from a "period-bonnet" of chantilly lace.
Miss Katherine Lee Wood, of Roanoke and Hopewell, Virginia, was maid of honor. She wore a gown of white organdy over orchid taffeta fashioned with a deep puritan collar of appliqued lace which was worn off-shoulder forming a cap-sleeve. The fitted bodice was accented with a wide sash of taffeta and the full skirt had a deep flounce of appliqued lace at the hem-line. She wore a poke bonnet of organdy over taffeta and matching mitts. She carried an arm bouquet of mixed flowers.
Miss Peggy Louise Martin, cousin of the bride, of Toms Creek, Virginia, and Mrs. Ralph E. Main of Coeburn and Morgantown, West Virginia, were bridesmaids. They wore gowns of white organdy over buttercup yellow taffeta fashioned as the maid- of-honor. Also bridesmaids were Miss Mary Lyon Patteson, cousin of the bride from Manteo, Virginia, and Miss Miriam Estes of Coeburn and West Palm Beach, Florida, who wore gowns of white organdy over sea-foam green. They all carried arm bouquets and wore matching head-dresses and mitts fashioned as the honor attendant.
Miss Susie Martin, cousin of the bride, acted as flower girl. She wore a gown like that of the maid-of- honor. George Straley Tate, father of the groom, acted as best man. Ushers were Hiter Robinson, Jack Hatcher, James Renfro, and Yeardly Scarboro, all of Norton, Virglnia.
The church was decorated with palms, ferns, and branched candelabra holding lighted cathedral tapers. Floor baskets of white gladioli completed the setting. The nuptial music was presented by Mrs. William Waddell, organist, and Mrs. E. P. Litton, who sang "Because" by d'Hardelot. The traditional wedding marches were used for the processional and recessional.
The bride's mother was attired in an aqua crepe gown with matching accessories and a corsage of pink rosebuds and the groom's mother wore a gown of rose crepe and lane. Her accessories were of matching color and she wore a corsage of pink orchids.
After the ceremony the bride's parents entertained with a reception at their home in Coeburn, Virginia, for relatives and out-of-town guests. Immediately following the reception the couple left for a trip to Lake Lure, North Carolina. For traveling the bride wore a faille suit of blue with matching hat and deep red accessories'. She wore her orchid from her bouquet.
The bride Is a graduate of Coeburn High School, Coeburn, Virginia, and was graduated from the Medical College of Virginia School of Nursing. She has for the past two and one-half years been employed at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia. The groom is a graduate of Norton High School, Norton, Virginia. He attended Milligan College and is a graduate of the U. S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland. He Is now attending the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry and is a member of the Si Omeya Dental Fraternity.
After September 6, Mr. and Mrs. Tate, Jr., will be at home at 4014 Maury Street, Richmond, Virginia,
