  Notes	Ambushed and shot standing in the yard. At the time Mertie and Hobart were "in a racket" and for some reason having to do with that, she refused to permit Ray's burial in the family cemetery. His grave is said to be somewhere beyond it. It has been suggested that Ray was killed by his brother over a girl (Sessie Mae Whitaker) while they were feeding the farm stock. Sessie was the daughter of Hobart and that may have been the reason for the argument.
