Her family stated, "She went to be with the Lord after a long illness." She was born in February 1922 in Virginia, and was a daughter of the late William and Verdie Blair Tipton. She was the widow of Ted Ketron. A former resident of the Kingsport area, she had lived in Fall Branch since 1970. She was a Christian and of the Baptist tradition of faith. After retiring, she was a baby sitter. Her family noted, "She was 'Nanny' and 'Mammaw' to numerous children." Survivors include her son: Robay Johnston Jr. and his wife, Helen, of Piney Flats; a daughter: Brenda J. Huff of Kingsport; seven grandchildren, two of whom she raised: James Richard "Rick" Johnson and his wife, Mechille, and Nikki Fuller and her husband, Jeff; 14 great-grandchildren; and a brother: Billy Joe Tipton of Kingsport. She was preceded in death by a daughter: Wanda Johnston Caperton; two brothers: Alfred Ray Tipton Sr. and Robert Lee Tipton; and a sister: Mabel Donihe. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga St., Kingsport. A graveside service will be held at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning in Bethesda Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Fall Branch. Nathan Jackson Jr. will officiate. Pallbearers will be her family and friends. Those attending the service will meet at 10:55 at the cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Northeast Tennessee Chapter, 207 N. Boone Street, Suite 1500, Johnson City, TN 37604.
