He was born in Gate City, Va., had spent most of his life in Kingsport and had been an employee of the Kingsport Power Company for 28 years. He was a member of the Fellowship Freewill Baptist Church and a member of the Vermont Ruritan Club. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Nina Tipton, of the home; two sons, Alfred Tipton Jr. and James W. (Jay) Tipton, both of the home; mother, Mrs. W. A, Tipton, Kingsport; two sisters, Mrs. Ted (Gaynell) Ketron, Fall Branch, Mrs. John (Mabel) Donihe, Kingsport'; two brothers, Robert Lee Tipton, Gray, Tenn., Bill Joe. Tipton, Kingsport; three nieces and six nephews. Carter's Chapel Funeral Home is in charge.
