OBITUARY
LINCOLNTON, GA. - Mr. Billy Joe Bannister, Sr. 76, entered into rest on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at University Hospital in Augusta, GA.
The funeral service with full military honors will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at Bethany United Methodist Church with Rev. Donnie Bannister and Rev. Thomas Moon officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Brian Bohler, John David Flanigan, Cody Davis, Bruce Turner, Gary Mackie, Jarrod Mackie, Tim Partridge, Rocky Branch Men's Golf Association, and the Men's Congregation of Bethany United Methodist Church.
Mr. Bannister was the son of the late Herbert W. Bannister and the late Beulah Pack Bannister of Raysal, WV. He was a 1955 graduate of Del Barton High School in West Virginia and a 1974 graduate of the University of Maryland where he majored in United States History. Mr. Bannister retired after 21 years in the United States Army serving his country honorably with two tours of duty in Vietnam. He attained the rank of 1st Sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Star and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm. Bill retired after 20 years at Mayfair Mills and later as owner of Lincoln Garden Center. He was a member of Rocky Branch Golf Club and attended Bethany United Methodist Church where he taught the Adult Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Bryan Bannister; children, Joey Bannister of Chicago IL., David O'Neal and wife, Anna of North Augusta, S.C., Marty Bannister and wife, Amy of Dublin, OH, Bryan Guin and wife, Kathy of Tignall, GA., and Travis Guin and wife, April of Tignall; grandchildren, Kristen Crenshaw, Kayley Bannister, Lillie and Emily O'Neal, Corey, Amy and Sophie Bannister, Will, Taylor and Holden Guin; and great grandchild, Caden Crenshaw.
Mr. Bannister was preceded in death by his first wife, Lillie "Lil" Parker Bannister and a son, Terry Alan Bannister.
