Notes	MILITARY SERVICE Company E, 5th Virginia Cavalry, Payne's Battalion, Fitz. Lee's Division, Cavalry, Army of Northern Virginia, C.S.A. The 5th Cavalry Regiment was organized in June, 1862, using the 2nd Battalion Virginia Cavalry as its nucleus. The men were from Petersburg and Fairfax, Gloucester, King and Queen, Mathews, Randolph, and James City counties. Enlisted on 7 June 1861 at King & Queen Court House, VA as a Private, he mustered into "E" Co. VA 5th Cavalry. On all rolls July 1861 through Nov. 1863. POW on rolls through April 1864. Paroled 26 April 1865 Richmond, VA.
