- John Dawson and his brother, Henry D. sold two hundred acres to Starkey and Larry Castellow on the 20th of November 1819 in Bertie County, North Carolina (Bertie Co., Deed Book Z, page97). John Dawson had bought the land at a sheriff's auction on the 10th day of December, 1808.
John and Zilphia moved to Haywood County, Tennessee in 1834. John was the wagon master of the wagon train that took the family from North Carolina to Tennessee.
John's will was written in 1853. The estate was probated in 1859.
Charter member and a "Deacon" with Capehart's Baptist Church.
