Notes	The History of Oregon: George was six years old when they crossed the plains to Oregon. After his arrival he had a severe attack of mountain fever and it affected his memory of the journey. He attended public schools and remained with his father until he was twenty-seven years of age, when he married. After his marriage he settled on the donation claim of his brother William Whitaker which contained 320 acres. This farm he purchased and farmed for twelve years. He is a stockholder in both the banks of Independence and has been a director of the First National Bank since its organization.
