Cause of death: Atelectasis
The collapse or closure of the lung resulting in reduced or absent gas exchange; In premature newborns, this leads to infant respiratory distress syndrome. Previously called hyaline membrane disease (HMD), it is a syndrome in premature infants caused by structural immaturity in the lungs.
