According to his obituaries on Find A Grave, Samuel's father drowned soon after his birth and the family returned to their former home: Lancaster Co, Pennsylvania. After he married his wife in Pennsylvania, they moved to Michigan.
He bought the Rex Woodworth farm in Oakwood County and raised four children there.
