August 20, 1921 - November 23, 2010
89, of St. Petersburg, died Tuesday, November 23, 2010, at Westminster Palms. Born in Rochester, NY, she came here in 1988 from The Democratic Republic of The Congo. She was a Missionary for many years for the American Baptist Church and was a member of American Baptist Church of the Beatitudes in St. Petersburg. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nils and Nellie Alsen. She is survived by her sisters, Dorothy Place of MA and Edith Holcomb of WV. Inurnment will take place at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Massachusetts at a later date.

Dorothy A. (Alsen) Place, formerly of Arlington and Cummaquid, died May 14, 2013, in Acton at age 90.
The daughter of the late Nils and Nellie (Clare) Alsen, Mrs. Place was born and raised in Arlington, and attended Arlington High School where she excelled in academics and loved starring in operettas. After graduating with honors, Mrs. Place attended the Pierce Secretarial School and was employed at B.U. Law and Polaroid until she married in 1946.
A tireless volunteer at Symms Hospital, Emerson Hospital, and Cape Cod Hospital, she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Arlington and First Congregational Church in Yarmouthport.
A lifetime member of the Cummaquid Golf Club, her hobbies included knitting, needlepoint, rug making, basket weaving, and reading. She was a member of Quidnuncs, Quilters, Meetneats.
She was the wife of 50 years to the late Kenneth V. Place. Mrs. Place was the mother of Stephen C. Place and his wife Paula of Bristol, CT, and Karl W. Place and his wife Mary of Maynard; grandmother of four; and great-grandmother of two. She was the sister of the late Margaret C. Alsen of St. Petersburg, FL, and the late Edith C. Holcomb of Charleston, WV.
A private burial service will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

OBITUARY
Edith A. "Eadie" Holcomb, 86, of Charleston died Saturday, July 2, 2011 at Hubbard Hospice House following a long illness.
She was born October 16, 1924 in Cambridge, Mass a daughter of the late Nils and Nellie Alsen. She was also preceded in death by her sister Margaret "Marnee" Alsen.
She was a 1942 graduate of Arlington High School, and Pierce School in Boston, Mass. She continued her education in Accounting at WV State College. She had been the business administrator for the Baptist Temple Church for 28 years, and a member of the Baptist Temple Church for 60 years.
She loved to sew, knit, and crochet in her spare time. She and Tom square danced for 14 years and she made all of her blouses, skirts and Tom?s ties and shirts. They had a camp for 32 years on the Elk River where she could relax and read. Eadie sang in the Chancel Choir and for many years, played in the bell choir which she loved working with Wayne Eich.
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years Thomas S. Holcomb, Jr. They celebrated their anniversary on March 31, 2011. Also surviving two daughters Carol A. Holcomb of St. Albans, and Nancy Miriam Stant and her husband Lou of Nashville, Indiana, three grandchildren Zack Stant of Hawaii, Marina Stant and Gabriel Stant both of Nashville, Indiana, one sister Dorothy Place of Maynard, Mass, 11 nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Eadie loved life and everyone loved her.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at 2pm at the Baptist Temple with Dr. Dennis Johnson and Rev. Archie Snedegar officiating.
Friends may call from 12:30 till time of services at the church. The Holcomb family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Quarry Manor and Hubbard Hospice House for their outstanding care to Eadie.

OBITUARY
Stephen Place, 76 of Bristol, Connecticut passed away after a four-year battle with cancer on May 12th, 2024.
A thoughtful and caring husband to his wife Paula of 37 years and a loving father to his daughters Anna and Deborah, Stephen was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1948 and grew up in Arlington, Massachusetts. He graduated Arlington High School in 1966, afterwards serving in the United States Air Force from 1968-1972, then graduating from UMass Amherst in 1975.
He was passionate about his work at the American Radio Relay League Headquarters, where he met his beloved spouse. He continued to work at several other companies, making friends wherever he went, retiring from Doncasters in 2014.
A true Christian gentleman, he was an active member of Grace Baptist Church for many years, devoting his time to teaching Sunday School and Pioneer Club, as well as serving on numerous committees. One of his proudest moments was attaining the rank of Eagle Scout in 1963.
In addition to being a devoted Boston sports fan, he enjoyed an array of other hobbies throughout his life, including reading, fishing, a deep appreciation of classical guitar music, and being the proud originator of many dad jokes.
Stephen was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Dorothy (Alsen) Place. He is survived by his wife, Paula; daughter Anna Matney and her husband Christofer; daughter Deborah Place; brother Karl William Place and his wife Mary, and nephews Brandon and Jonathan Place.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, from 5-8pm at Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad St. Plainville, CT, with burial at State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Baptist Book of Remembrance, 736 King Street, Bristol, Connecticut 06010.
