OBITUARY
William Burke Fletcher, Sr., 77 of Mount Carmel, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday May 10,2011 in the comfort of his home.
He was born in Buchanan County, Virginia and had lived in the Big Moccasin area of Scott County, VA before moving to Mount Carmel in 1963. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Korea. Burke was a retired supervisor of the Hawkins County Press following 38 years of service, where he was a big supporter of Kingswood School for Children. He was a member of West View Missionary Baptist Church, a chaplain of Raceway Ministries and an ordained deacon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bailey and Velvie McGlothlin Fletcher; brother, G. B. Fletcher; mother and father-in-law, Craig and Tina Owens.
Burke is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shirley Owens Fletcher of the home; daughters, Sharon Rose Roberts and husband Chris of Church Hill, Tammy Womack and husband Mike of Thompson Station, TN; sons, Bill Fletcher and fiance Ruby Cortner of Nashville and Mike Fletcher of Lebanon, VA; grandchildren, William Fletcher, Marshall Fletcher, Daniel Roberts, Angela Roberts, Dusty Fletcher and wife Liza Ferguson Fletcher, Gracie Fletcher, Sam Womack and Marley Womack; great-grandson, Brody Fletcher; mothers of grandchildren, Linda Fletcher, Tammy Dorton and Kathy Fletcher; sister, Catherine Ford and husband Sam of Fall
Branch; brothers; Winfred Fletcher of Kingsport, Eugene Fletcher and wife Betty of Jonesborough and Darrell Fletcher and wife Jeanette of Nickelsville; sister-in-law, Betty Lou Fletcher of Nickelsville; several nieces and nephews.
The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, May 13,2011 at Carter Trent Funeral Home, 1115 Hwy 11W, Church Hill, TN. A funeral service was held at 7:00 p.m. in the Carter Trent Funeral Home chapel, Church Hill, TN, with Pastor Mike Stout and Rev. Darrell Fletcher officiating. Music was provided by members of West View Missionary Baptist Church.
A military graveside service was held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Church Hill Memory Gardens with the Hawkins County Color Guard and the TN National Guard conducting the rites. Pallbearers were grandsons and sons-in-law. Honorary pallbearers were Harry Morgan and workers in Raceway Ministries.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Raceway Ministries or West View Missionary Baptist Church
