    Aileen Altizer Brown
    (Pilgrim's Knob)

    Aileen (Al) Altizer Brown, 76, of Pilgrim?s Knob, died Thursday, March 2, 2006 at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN.

    Born in Amonate, she was the daughter of the late Samuel (Slick) and Essie Altizer. She attended Garden High School and was later inducted into the Garden High School Hall of Fame for her outstanding contribution to girls basketball.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Brown, and two brothers, Willis Altizer and Wade Altizer.

    She is survived by one son, Jeff, and wife, Glenna, of Richlands; brothers and sisters, Tootsie Matney and husband, Raymond, of Oakwood, JoAnn Johnson of Keen Mountain, Peggy Webb and husband, Johnny, of Keen Mountain, Janie Coleman and husband, Roger, of Deel and Sam Altizer of Abingdon, one brother-in-law, Hurtle Brown of Ocala, FL, one sister-in-law, Rethal Brown of Pilgrim?s Knob; one granddaughter, Ally, one grandson, Corey, several nieces and nephews.

    Services were held Saturday, March 4 at Buchanan Funeral Home, Keen Mountain, with Minister Chris Webb officiating. Burial followed in Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery in Richlands.

    Nephews and friends served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Joe Ward, Rufus Keen, Carl Keen, Russell Rash, Raymond Matney, Roger Coleman, Johnny Webb and Dr. Ramesh Kabaria.

    Buchanan Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

    Aileen Altizer Brown
    Aileen Altizer Brown, 76, of Pilgrims Knob, died Mar. 2 at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN.

    Born May 3, 1929 at Amonate, she was the daughter of the late Samuel (Slick) and Essie Altizer. She was born as Aileen Altizer but was known to family and friends as Al.

    She attended Garden High School and was later inducted into the Garden High School Hall of Fame for her outstanding contribution to girls basketball.

    She spent her life as a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Brown, and two brothers, Willis Altizer and Wade Altizer.

    She left behind a son, Jeff, and daughter-in-law, Glenna, from Richlands and her most precious gifts ever, granddaughter Ally and grandson Corey, which were the light of her life.

    She will be sorely missed by her brothers and sisters, Sam Altizer of Abingdon; Tootsie Matney and husband, Raymond, of Oakwood, JoAnn Johnson and Peggy Webb and husband, Johnny, all of Keen Mountain, Janie Coleman and husband, Roger, of Deel; brother-in-law, Hurtle Brown of Ocala, FL; and sister-in-law, Rethal Brown of Pilgrims Knob. She was blessed with loving nieces and nephews not to mention selfless neighbors who she considered part of her family.
    A celebration of her life was held Mar. 4 at 1 p.m. at Buchanan Funeral Home in Keen Mountain with Minister Chris Webb officiating.

    Burial followed in the Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery in Richlands.
