    In 1899, Senator James F. Beavers representing the Seventh District, was patron of a bill in the West Virginia legislature that established three miner's hospitals in the state. The one in the Flat Top mining region was to be in either Mercer or McDowell counties. Welch was chosen as the site and the city donated the land.

    Major shareholder of the Eastern Kentucky Realty Company, chartered in 19 Dec 1906 to purchase, develop, and lease land for coal, timber, oil, and mineral rights. Total shares: 50 and James owned 10.

    According to the Charleston Daily Mail, 13 April 1915, he was operator of the Magnolia Coal and Coke Co.

    Strong Citizens' Ticket Nominated at Welch

    A citizens ticket to be voted for at the municipal election in January was nominated at a largely attended convention at Welch last night. The nominations follow: Mayor J. A. Strother. Recorder; W. 0. Perry. Councilmen: J. F. Johnson, W. W. Whyte, James F. Beavers, A. C. Brewster and A. Z. Iiltz. Mr. Strother has been mayor of Welch for the past five years, and Mr. Perry has served several terms as recorder of that town.

    Ashton File, of this city, was elected as one of the two delegates to the Baltimore convention from the fifth congressional district, at Huntington last Tuesday.

    James F. Beavers, of Wayne county, a former member of the West Virginian senate, was nominated by the Democrats of the fifth congressional convention at Huntington on last Tuesday for congressman from this district.
