OBITUARY

CHARLES EDWARD "C" AKERS, JR., a well-known resident of the Rich Valley section of Washington County, passed away Monday, May 24, 2010, at Johnston Memorial Hospital.

He was born April 1, 1929, in Washington County, Virginia, a son of the late C. E. Akers, Sr. and Pearl Kestner Akers. He lived his entire life in Washington County and was a retired mechanic. He had worked several places through the years including Abingdon Dodge, J. C. Vann Equipment Co., Tri-Vann, and Lebanon Equipment. He was a quiet, gentle man who was always helpful to folks and enjoyed country music and eating breakfast out with his friends. He will be sadly missed by his dog "Brit". He was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include one sister, Annette A. Hay and husband Elmer of Abingdon; three brothers, Leroy D. Akers of Bristol, Tennessee, Eugene F. Akers of Bristol, Virginia, and Kenneth D. Akers and wife Nellie of Abingdon, Virginia, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Charles Edward "C" Akers, Jr. will be conducted at 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 26, 2010 in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jerry A. Eggers and Pastor Larry Linkous officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:30 P.M. until the time of the funeral service. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 27, 2010, at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Harold Mitchell, Don Wirt, Bob Reynolds, Earl Fogleman, Scott Gobble, Allen Hay, Kenny Akers, and Jimmy Reynolds. Honorary pallbearers will be additional nephews and friends. The funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:40 A.M. on Thursday. Friends may join the family and pallbearers in the funeral procession or meet at the cemetery. Friends will also be received at the home of Kenneth Akers, 12116 Bow Hunter Drive, Abingdon, at any time.

OBITUARY

BRISTOL, Tenn. Leroy Dean Akers, 81, passed away Monday, June 3, 2013, unexpectedly at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born in Abingdon, Va., on Oct. 6, 1931, a son of the late Ed and Pearl Akers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Pruitt Akers; and brother, C. E. Akers.

Leroy is survived by his children, Jerry Akers and wife Ruth of Bristol, Va., Kathy Thomas of Johnson City, Tenn., Venida Kelly of Hayters Gap, Va., and Dion Akers and wife Crystal of Bristol, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth Akers of Abingdon and Eugene Akers of Bristol, Va.; and sister, Nellie Hay of Abingdon.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Blevins Funeral and Cremation Services. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with Pastor Jackie Cox officiating. The committal service and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 7, 2013, at Mountain View Cemetery.
