FUNERAL RITES FOR MRS.
R. H. HUDSON TODAY

Last rites ere held this afternoon for Mrs. R. H. Hudson, manager of the Eagle Hotel, whose death occurred in a local hospital Tuesday morning.

Services were held in the Methodist Church with the pastor, Rev. H. B. Abshire, officiating. Members of the chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, to which Mrs. Hudson belonged, had charge of the grave ritual and acted as flower bearers at the church. Interment was in Hankins cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, R. H. Hudson, N and W locomotive engineer, and one daughter, Miss Thelma Hudson.

She was a native of this section and spent most of her life
in and near Richlands. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Beavers and is survived by four brothers,
Tom Beavers, of Richlands, Linzi Beavers, of Cedar Bluff, Otis Beavers, of Bandy, Henry Beavers, of War, W. Va., and one sister, Mrs. Clarence Stevenson, of Bandy.

Mrs. Hudson's death was attributed to high blood pressure, an ailment from which she had suffered for several months.
She is widely known throughout this section for the excellent cuisine of the restaurant, which she has operated here and elsewhere for a number of years. Some years ago Mr. and Mrs. Hudson had a restaurant business here and when the Dixie Hotel was built they were the first lessors of
of that hostelry. Later, they sold their business here and moved to Norton, where they operated a popular restaurant. A little over a year ago, they returned here and leased the Eagle Hotel which they have managed and operate every since.

OBITUARY

Lilian Collins, age 88, of the Indian Creek section of Cedar Bluff, VA passed away on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at Heritage Hall in Tazewell, VA.

Ms. Collins was born in Lancaster, PA and was the daughter of the late Lindsey Taylor and Nancy Whittaker Beavers. She had lived most of her life in the Cedar Bluff area and attended the Crossroads Community Church. She will be missed by all her family and friends that loved her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Collins, Jr.; a son, Rodney Collins; one sister, Nell Burress; and one brother, Kenneth Beavers.

She is survived by:

Kerry Collins and wife, Mary Alice of Cedar Bluff, VA

Also surviving are five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services for Lilian Collins will be conducted at 10:00 am on Friday, June 29, 2018 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, VA with the Rev. Rick Pruitt officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, VA. Pallbearers will be: Brian Purvis, Christopher Collins, Rodney Collins, Scott Collins and Brett Jones. The Collins family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Herbert Thomas Bandy

BANDY, Va. ? Herbert Thomas Bandy, age 84, of Bandy, Va., passed away Sunday, March 23, 2008 at Heritage Hall in Tazewell, Va.

Born March 16, 1924 in Tazewell County, Va., he was the son of the late Newt P. and Maude Creed Bandy. He was a United States Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II. He was a deacon and member of Middle Creek Advent Christian Church of Cedar Bluff, Va.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one infant granddaughter, Lisa Ann Byrd; and nine brothers.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mrs. Margaret Harper Bandy; six daughters, Florence Cerenda Berry and husband, James of Roanoke, Ethel Gibson and husband, Jerry of Roanoke, Margaret G. James and husband, Ronald of Wardell, Pauline Dowdy and husband, Jack of Bandy, Anna Lord and husband, Donald of Paint Lick, Josephine Ball and husband, Gary of Road Ridge; two sons, Herbert Clyde (Buck) Bandy and wife, Doshie of Bandy, William ?Bill? Bandy and wife, Jackie of Baptist Valley; two sisters, Eliza Sparks of Bandy and Uvia Sparks of Rt. 1, Cedar Bluff; three sisters-in-law, Pauline Bandy of Bandy, Pansy Bandy of Richlands and Darlious Bandy of Mansfield, Ohio; one brother-in-law, Monroe Harper of Lake Charles, La.; 21 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, nine step grandchildren; and 11 step great-grandchildren. He is also survived by the staff and residents of Heritage Hall at Tazewell where he had spent the last 14 months.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel at Cedar Bluff, Va., with Brother Danny Starling and Brother Roy Meadows officiating. Burial will follow in the Argabright-Bandy Cemetery in Sinking Waters at Bandy, Va. Pallbearers will be grandsons-in-law. Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers. Military memorial rites will be conducted by Casey-Shortt VFW Post 9640.

The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m., (today) Wednesday at Singleton Funeral Service at Cedar Bluff, Va.

Edith Catherine West Kirk, age 85, of Berwind, W.Va., died Monday, March 15, 2010 at Tazewell Community Hospital in Tazewell, Va. Born July 22, 1924 at Hartwell, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Estol and Ora Beavers West. Mrs. Kirk worked many years as a clerk at the Berwind Company Store. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four children, David Dillard, Jimmy Dillard, Donnie Dillard, and Deanna Dillard; two sisters, Margaret Hunley and Dorothy Berger; four brothers, Lloyd West, Thorton West, Leon West, and Howard West.

Survivors include two granddaughters, Heather Dillard of Roanoke, Va. and Tammy Rose of Lexington, Ky.; two great-grandchildren, Amber Rose and Blake Rose; one niece, Robin Workman of North Carolina; her friend and companion of many years, Garny Brewster of Berwind, W.Va.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2010 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va. with the Reverend Dr. Thomas A. Conley officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 12:00 noon on Thursday, March 18, 2010.

OBITUARY

TUPELO - Dexter Daniel Beavers, 85, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, in Chattanooga, Tenn., where he lived with his daughter and son-in-law.

He was born May 29, 1922, in Raven, Va., to Dexter Boyd Beavers and Stella Maynard Beavers. He volunteered for duty with the U.S. Army Signal Corps and served three years in New Guinea and the Philippines during World War II.

Upon returning, he married and began a preaching career spanning over 55 years in locations from Tennessee to Florida and Virginia to Mississippi, including radio and television evangelism. He preached full-time for churches in Fulton and Houston, Miss., before retiring in 1992 and moving to Tupelo, where he was very active for more than 10 years in the teaching and outreach work of the Gloster Street Church of Christ.

During that time he was also a member of the Tupelo Luncheon Civitan Club and a charter member and on the Board of Directors for The Shepherd Center. He came out of retirement in 1999 to serve the Lawson Chapel Church of Christ in Prairie, before finally retiring five years later due to ill health.

Throughout his life he was dedicated to helping others, no matter what their situation, in the name of the Lord. His daily motto was simple: "Do it now!" He will always be remembered for his active card ministry, sending birthday and anniversary wishes to many of the people he taught, baptized or married during his active years. At his request, his body has been given for scientific research through Anatomy Gifts Registry. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at Gloster Street Church of Christ in Tupelo.

Survivors include two children, Dexter Samuel (Laura) of Charlotte, Tenn., and Emile Ann (Richard) Salisbury of Chattanooga, Tenn.; one brother, M.R. "Bob" (Opal) Beavers of Marion, N.C.; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be sent to Boyd-Buchanan School, 4626 Bonnieway Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37411, Attention: R. OBITUARY

Marvin "Bob" Beavers born July 4, 1926 in Raven Virginia, passed away May 24, 2014 peacefully surrounded by his loving family at home, with the help of Hospice of McDowell County. He was the son of Dexter Boyd Beavers, Stella Maynard Beavers and Hannah Reedy Beavers. He was preceded in death by his sister Nell Beavers Barry, two brothers Dexter and Gayle Beavers and one half brother, Arnold Dye.

Prior to retirement in Marion, Bob worked as the doorman of the Mayflower Hotel on Connecticut Avenue in Washington, DC from 1949 to 1992. He was honored with the distinguished award of National Doorman of the Year in 1985 and was lovingly referred to as the ?Mayor of Connecticut Avenue?. He traveled the world as his picture graced the Stouffer Hotel advertising brochure. He was also the recipient of the Thurston Dupar Inspirational Award for exemplary service in 1975 and several lesser awards over the years. He was honored to serve such people as Queen Elizabeth, Khrushchev, Winston Churchill and 11 presidents with his favorite being Harry Truman who walked by every day and stopped to chat.

He loved people and serving them. He never met a stranger and everyone who knew him loved him. He will be missed by his family, friends, MCA people he volunteered with, his orange buddies to whom he sold over 100 cases each year, the Senior Center Meals on Wheels volunteers, the Senior Games Competitors and all those dear friends he met and competed against while bowling.

Those he left to cherish his wonderful life and remember him as a precious, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather are his wife of 54 years, Opal Westall Beavers, daughter Debbie Gagliano and husband Jeff, daughter Barbie Beavers and son David Beavers with his wife Barbara. His grandchildren are Celeste Agett and husband Chandler, Jordan and Anthony Waterloo, Tony Gagliano and wife Katie, Madison and Rilee Beavers. His greats are Calieigh and Canon Agett. He will also be missed by many other family members.

Services will be held at Maranatha Baptist Church, Saturday May 31, 3 pm. We will be receiving from 2 to 3.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of McDowell County, 575 Airport Road, Marion, NC 28752.

Willie Beavers Rasnick, 77, of North Tazewell, VA, died September 17th, 2000 at the Heritage Hall in Tazewell, VA.

Willie was born in Tazewell County, VA.

Willie was a daughter of the late Bandy and Mollie Peery Beavers.

Willie was preceded in death by one sister, Eula Sizemore.

Willie is survived by her husband of 61 years, Brady E. Rasnick; sons, William B. Rasnick and Samuel C. Rasnick; and daughter, Ruby Zuccolini; her grandchildren, William B. Rasnick, Jr., Cheryl Rasnick Cosby,Timothy Rasnick, Rebecca Sheets Horn, Gregory Rasnick, Karen Sheets Deaton and Scott Rasnick; and ten great grandchildren; and sister, Ruby Evans.

Ruby Beavers Evans, beloved mother and grandmother, of 214 Redknot Street in Princeton, died peacefully at her residence on Wednesday, November 9, 2011.

Born February 28, 1926 in Tazewell County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Bandy Beavers and Mollie Peery Beavers. She was retired from the retail sales business. Ruby was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Princeton and was active in the Sacred Heart Prayer Circle. She was also a member of the Charlotte Women of Faith in Charlotte, N.C.

In addition to her parents, her husband of forty-one years, George Wendell Evans preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by one granddaughter, Lurah Evans Taylor; one great-grandson, James W. Evans III; and two sisters, Eula Sizemore and Willie Rasnick.
