    ATHENS, Ohio - Elsa Martha Stout, 94, Lindley Inn, The Plains, Ohio, died early Tuesday morning, Sept 17, 2002, at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital. A former resident of Athens, she was born July 14, 1908, at Majestic, Ky., daughter of the late Charles and Rachel Reed Sigmon.

    She grew up in southern West Virginia, having attended Allegheny Collegiate Institute and New River State College in W.Va. Early in life she was employed nine years as an employment counselor with the West Virginia Department of Employment Security in Point Pleasant, W. Va. Elsa then married the late Howard Stout and moved to Athens in 1951. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, the Athens Garden Club, and the Lydia Lash Evans Literary Club.

    Surviving are daughters, Nancy V (Joseph) Tryon of Arlington, Va. and Martha V (John) Watterson of Apple Grove, W. Va.; step-daughter, Carolyn Sue Allen of Athens, Ohio; step-son, Gordon (Nono) Stout of Florida; grandchildren, Caroline Tryon and husband Luis Borba of Alexandria, Va., Elizabeth (David) Crockett of Arlington, Va., Stephen (Kristina) Tryon of Maryland, Theresa Roberta Henson of Huntington, W.Va., Charles Stephen Hite of Point Pleasant, and Joseph H (Vicky) Hite of Marietta, Ohio; step-grandchildren, Scott Allen and Karen Gibbs of Athens; step-great-grandchildren, Ashley and Melissa Gibbs; five great-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; sister Juanita (E Husten) Halstead, Scott Depot, W.Va.; and nephew, John Halstead of Michigan.

    She was preceded in death by husbands, Stephen K Vaught and Howard Stout; and brother Walton Sigmon.

    The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 20 2002, in the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Athens. The Rev. E.F. Michael Morgan and Sister Faith Margaret, Community of Holy Spirit will be officiating. Burial will be in Lone Oak Cemetery in Point Pleasant. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home in Athens.

    Juanita S. Halstead, 89, of Scott Depot, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2006, at Sunbridge of Putnam after an extended illness.

    Juanita was a member of the Washington Street Church of Christ in St. Albans, where she had taught Ladies Bible Classes for many years. She had published a book about her Father's family titled "The Sigmon's of Virginia" and had completed an unpublished manuscript about her Mother's family titled "Reed's In The Wind." She was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed her genealogical studies and spending time with her two cats.

    Before her marriage, she had worked for the state of West Virginia in the Department of Labor and the Executive branch and later for the Southern Coal Operators Association in Charleston.

    She was preceded in death by her loving husband, E. Housten Halstead and her great-grandson, Jamie Dale Pauley.

    Juanita is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John H. and Joan Halstead of Midland, Mich.; her grandchildren, Erin Halstead Pauley, Matthew Joseph Halstead, and Carrie Rebecca Halstead; her great-grandchildren, Alexandra Brooke Pauley, Tyler Austin Venturi, Ella Madison Halstead, and Hunter Wayne Halstead; her niece, Martha Watterson of Apple Grove.

    A celebration of Juanita's life will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 15, at Casdorph & Curry Funeral Home, 110 B St., St. Albans, with Minister Michael Mayo officiating. Private entombment will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park. There will be a gathering of family and friends one hour prior to the service.
