OBITUARY
New-Gazette, Lexington, VA; 28 May 980
Edna Morton Sterrett, 83, of Brownsburg died Sunday morning at her home.
She was born Oct. 28, 1896 in Araguari, Brazil, the daughter of the late Rev. Charles Read Morton and Mary Thompson Morton, Presbyterian missionaries, who died in her infancy. She was reared in the home of her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. S.G. Howison in Fredericksburg.
Mrs. Sterrett was married to the late Madison McClung Sterrett, a prominent farmer and civic leader who died in 1975. The historic Sterrett farm was known in earlier years as Mulberry Grove.
She was a member of the New Providence Presbyterian Church and a graduate of Fredericksburg Normal School.
Mrs. Sterrett is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Bruce Alexander Lipscomb of Fairfield; a son, Madison McClung Sterrett Jr.; three sisters [note: they were actually her first cousins with whom she was raised in Fredericksburg], Mrs. J. Brooks Smith of Baltimore, MD, Miss Mary Graham Howison and Mrs. W.T. Stephens, both of Fredericksburg; a half-sister, Mrs. Marion J. Murray of High Point, N.C.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Thomas T. Biggs conducted a funeral yesterday at the New Providence Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
