OBITUARY

Kirksey "Buddy" Dortch, Jr., 84, of Birmingham went home to be with his Lord and Savior October 15, 2010. He loved the Lord and serving others while an active member of Crestway Baptist Church for over 40 years where he served on various committees.
Buddy was born April 10, 1926 and raised in Thomasville. After graduation from Thomasville High School in 1944, he enlisted and served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre during World War II aboard the tank landing ship LST-850. He participated in the invasion of Okinawa and landed at Yokahama, Japan, two weeks after the end of WWII. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Buddy enrolled at The University of Alabama where he received his Bachelor of science degree in Accounting in 1949. After college graduation, he began his career in medical supply sales with Durr- Fillauer Medical, Inc. where he served his entire career until retiring in 1992 as Vice-President of Marketing.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at Crestway Baptist Church in Birmingham with Dr. Jimmy Wilson officiating. Interment was at Forest Crest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials contributions may be made to Crestway Baptist Church.
Buddy was preceded in death by two sons, Preston Dortch and Billy Dortch; his parents, Kirksey Dortch, Sr. and Eva Spinks Dortch; two brothers, Robert "Bobby" Dortch, John Douglas Dortch; two sisters, Eloise Dortch Holloway and Jean Dortch Bouler.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Virginia Pearce Dortch of Birmingham; two sons, Kirk (Linnie) Dortch of Carrollton, Ga. and Ken (Alisa) Dortch of Birmingham; daughter, Cheryl Dortch White of Homewood; daughter-inlaw, Marleen Dortch of Florence; ten grandchildren, Ashley White, Heather White, Houston White, Molly Dortch, Amanda Davis, Logan Dortch, Duffee Dortch, Katie Dortch, Deanna (Greg) Beck and Dalisha Herring.
Roebuck Chapel Funeral Home in Birmingham directed.
