- Sgt. in artillery. Wounded at Gettysburg. Honorably discharged. While on summer vacation, visiting friends in Bedford, he was killed by Union soldiers at the base of Sharp Top of the Peaks of Otter. His friend, Henry Ewing, escaped unharmed. Troops were from General Hunter's army who was retreating from Lynchburg into the mountains after an encounter with General Jubal A. Early.
